My Approach

I'm Tom, a wedding photographer based in Gloucestershire. I work mainly in a documentary style, which means I spend most of the day photographing what is happening rather than arranging it. You get on with your wedding, I get on with recording it.

That said, I know there are photographs you want and photographs your family expects. The confetti walk, the group shot with everyone in it, the portraits of the two of you away from the crowd. Those get planned in properly and done quickly, so you can get back to the party.

Simple ideas

Before
We talk through your timeline, agree a list of group shots, and work out where the light will be. If I haven't shot at your venue before, I'll visit or scout it.

Through the day
I usually arrive during preparations and stay through to the first dance. Most of what I shoot is unposed. You will forget I'm there for long stretches, which is the point.

Group photographs
Around 20 minutes, from a list we agree beforehand. Pick one person from each side who knows everyone by sight and can round people up. It makes the difference between 20 minutes and 45.

Portraits of you two
15 to 20 minutes, timed for the best light rather than squeezed in after the speeches. Very little direction. Mostly I'll ask you to walk and talk to each other. Or you know, we can do some fun ones.
